Juan Carlos Pinzón Bueno (born 22 December 1971) is the current Minister of National Defence of Colombia.

Background

A graduate of the Pontifical Xavierian University, he holds a Bachelor and a Master of Economics from his alma mater where he also worked as Professor of Macroeconomics in the Department of Economics from 2000 to 2004. He has also completed advanced studies at the Paul H. Nitze School of Advanced International Studies in International Relations and Strategic Studies (2005-2006) and at the Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs in Science and Technology (2005). In 2010 he received a Master of Public Policy from the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs.[2]

Minister of Defence

On 31 August 2011 President Juan Manuel Santos Calderón announced the resignation of Rodrigo Rivera Salazar as Minister of National Defence and named Pinzón as his replacement.[3] Pinzón who up until that point had served as the General Secretary to President Santos had also served as Deputy Minister of Defence for Strategy and Planning in the previous administration of President Álvaro Uribe Vélez.[3] Pinzón was sworn in five days later on 5 September he was sworn in as the new Minister of National Defence.[4]

Personal life

Pinzón was born to Colonel Rafael Pinzón Rincón and Marlene Bueno[5] on 22 December 1971 .[6][7][8] He is married to María del Pilar Lozano with whom he has two children: Natalia and Juan Pablo.[9]
